Abstract

An important turning point in India's educational system has been the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which has emphasised the necessity of extensive reforms to raise the bar on both the quality and accessibility of education. Teachers' professional development is an important part of this strategy and will play a significant role in making it a success. the possibilities and obstacles linked to professional development for teachers within the framework of NEP 2020. The strategy aims to revamp teacher preparation programs, incorporate technology into classroom instruction, and encourage teachers to pursue lifelong learning and professional development. numerous obstacles, including inadequate facilities, reluctance to undergo transformation, and the necessity of a strong network of assistance for educators. Concurrently, it highlights the possibilities presented by NEP 2020, such as the promotion of a more reflective and active teaching staff, a concentration on holistic education, and new methods of instruction. This paper seeks to provide significant insights into how teacher professional development might have a vital role in India's educational reform by analysing the current landscape and the predicted changes under NEP 2020. Within the larger context of NEP 2020, the results are anticipated to provide insight into policy debates and guide efforts to improve the efficacy of teacher preparation and career advancement.
